Why are you assuming that I don’t know exoctic ingredients?
If I had asked for a Mexican food recipe would you have told me to go to the Taco Bell website?
Seriously… you shouldn’t make assumptions about my IQ.

I would like to know if anyone has seen a good source of comfort food recipes?
recipe sites i already have looked at are
recipezaar,
allrecipes,
copykat,
topsecretrecipes,
foodnetwork,
homeandgarden,
yahoo,
grouprecipes, and
recipegoldmine.
Foods that I do not care for are - beef livers, cooked/canned/frozen spinach, mustard and pickles… I can use stovetop, crockpot, oven, rotissiere and grill.
(PS - i personally enjoy mustard and pickles, hubby does not. beef liver and cooked spinach generally do not even make it into my basket when shopping.)
Let me add that healthy is of importance too. I love to watch Paula Deen and have even ventured to make her recipes - albeit the fattening ones - and her love of butter is honestly shared by my family — however, healthy is needed as well. TIA

Hi everyone. I have just been given a brand new crock pot and need to know some good comfort-food recipes I can make in it. Dairy products are Ok, and I will eat eggs, but cooking those in a crock pot might be a bit strange.

this is mine

* I cup flour
* 1 Tbs Garlic Powder
* 1 Tbs Onion Powder
* Salt and pepper
* 1/4 cup olive oil
* 2 lbs pounds stew beef, cut into 1-inch pieces
* 6 large garlic cloves, minced
* 6 cups beef stock or canned beef broth
* I cup of Guinness beer
* 1 cup of fine red wine
* 2 tablespoons tomato paste
* 1 tablespoon sugar
* 1 tablespoon dried thyme
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 2 bay leaves
* 2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
* 3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 7 cups)
* 1 large onion, chopped
* 2 cups 1/2-inch pieces peeled carrots
* 2 cups 1/2-inch pieces of celery
* 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
* desired amount of arrowroot or cornstarch for thickening
1. Toss beef in a mixture of flour, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper and shake off the excess.

2 Heat olive oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add beef and sauté until brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute. Add beef stock, Guinness, red wine, tomato paste, sugar, thyme, Worcestershire sauce and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Bring mixture to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, then cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

3 While the meat and stock is simmering, melt butter in another large pot over medium heat. Add potatoes, onion, carrots and celery And salt and pepper to taste. Sauté vegetables until golden, about 20 minutes. Set aside.

4 Add vegys to stew. Simmer uncovered for 40 minutes. Add desired amount of arrowroot for thickening.

I also add a heaping spoonful of mashed turnips to a bowl of stew and top with Frenches French fried onions, but that is a whole other recipe.
